Just as highlighted in our previous article, a driving license is one of the mandatory requirements so as to be able to able our 4×4 car rental Uganda services. By definition, a driving license is a legal document that gives one the moral authority to operate a motor vehicle in Uganda. The motor vehicles could include; a motorcycle, a truck a PSV or PMO. It serves as a proof of competence that a particular individual legal meets the set requirements so as to be able to drive in Uganda.
So before we issue out 4x4s to a client, we have to ensure that they possess a valid driving license which informs to us that they are competent enough and they have undergone the required driving tests. Today we are going to take you the process of getting a driving license in Uganda.
The process of issuing driving permits is managed by the ministry of works and transport, who collaborate amicably with the Uganda revenue authority and face technologies.
Age requirement: getting a driving license in Uganda starts meeting the 18 years and above age requirement. The ministry of work and transport says that one becomes eligible and legally acceptable to get a driving license when they are 18 years and above. Obtaining a learners permit
after meeting the required age limit for getting a driving license in Uganda, the process starts with obtaining a learners driving license. To get a learners license, visit the Uganda driver licensing system (UDLS) in Kampala in order to get the application forms for a learner’s license.
For convenience, one can visit the Uganda driver licensing system website and get the forms. The required documents for getting this are; a valid national ID, or passport for nationals of the east African community, a work permit and a filled medical form.
Upon meeting all these, pay the required fee of UGX 60,000 in the bank or mobile money. Submit the forms, medical reports and proof of payments to the UDLS


Driving test at the IOV
the process of getting a driving license in Uganda now continues with preparing for the driving test at the inspectorate of vehicles (IOV), an inspectorate under the directorate traffic and road safety department of the Uganda police force.
Enroll in a registered driving school in Uganda and have all the necessary trainings that one ought to have before going for the driving test at the IOV. To enroll in a driving school, one ought to possess a learners driving license issued by the UDLS.
Upon completing the trainings, apply for a driving test through the URA website which costs UGX 25,000.
Upon passing the driving test, the inspectorate of vehicles will offer you a certificate of competence.
Applying for full driving license
having successfully passed the IOV driving test, with a certificate of competence, you will be forwarded to face technologies so as to complete your process of getting a driving license in Uganda.
Visit any branch of UDLS with requirements such as; proof of payment, national ID, or passport for foreign people, certificate of competence from the IOV, certificate of completion from a fully licensed driving school in Uganda, refugee cars for the case of refugees in Uganda
Upon submitting all those required documents, your application for getting a driving license in Uganda will be reviewed, and later you will be called upon for capturing your biometrics.
Upon approval from the review of the application documents, you will successfully receive your new driving permit in Uganda and considered to be able to legally drive while in Uganda.
