Seat belts save lives
The mechanism of a seat belt is in such a way that it operates like a reflex action. When it notices abrupt movements, it gets stuck. Imagine a situation where by you are driving on a high speed and having to brake abruptly.
Because of wearing a seatbelt, you are prevented from being ejected or thrown out of the car. On record, seat belts have reduced deaths among front seat passengers by approximately 50% and 75% to rear seat passengers.
It’s the law
According to the republic of Uganda, one must drive while wearing a seat belt. It is a legal requirement and failure to adhere to the seat belt requirement calls for a ticket by the Uganda police force through the directorate of traffic and road safety which amounts to UGX 60,000.
This some with surcharges of 50% upon failure to pay with 72 hours. So always wear a seat belt to avoid such tickets.
Insurance and legal complications
Under the principles of insurance, there is a principle called “proximate cause principle”. Under this principle, the insurance principles, if you get an accident and get injuries, the cause of the injuries is assessed and if it’s found out that they were caused because of not wearing a seat belt, then the insurer may not be compensated.

In cases of hard crashes, wearing a seat belt prevents ejection from the vehicle. A person can be ejected from the car leading to brutal injuries and could be death. So wear a seat belt to avoid all this because it keeps you intact

Rollover accidents are common on highways and rural roads and usually caused due to over speeding. During rollover accidents, passengers that are not wearing seat belts are at a risk of being ejected or thrown out of the vehicle.
